In May 2026, a global coalition of 56 medical and patient organizations officially renamed polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).
The new name better reflects the hormonal and metabolic nature of the condition, which the older "polycystic" framing did not capture.
Nothing about your diagnosis, your treatment, or our approach to care has changed. The information on this page still applies.
Over the next three years, you will see both PCOS and PMOS used across medical records, lab reports, and patient materials, including ours, as the new name is gradually adopted.
