Genetic Testing for Jewish Patients

People of Ashkenazi Jewish descent are more likely to carry certain inherited conditions such as Tay-Sachs, Gaucher disease, and Canavan disease. About 1 in 40 also carries a BRCA gene mutation linked to increased cancer risk.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Disorders (PGT-M) allows embryos created through IVF to be tested for these conditions so you can select unaffected embryos for transfer.

We recommend comprehensive genetic carrier screening for Jewish patients. If both partners are carriers, PGT-M can reduce the risk of passing conditions on to your child. Our in-house genetic counselors will guide you through the process with compassion and clarity.

How to Get Started

Ready to take the next step towards growing your family?

"I understand why people choose to keep secrets. Often, I think decisions are made based on privacy, not shame. But we're a community that values modesty, so talking openly about reproduction can be tricky. Despite the secrecy, I don't think that the Orthodox community has a taboo about assisted reproduction — we just tend to keep quiet about it."

"For us, the struggle was all worth it. We really appreciated the rare degree of specialized support and understanding we received from Dr. Ressler and the team at Illume Fertility."
